I'm not sure if it's just where I am in my life that my attention is particularly peaked or if it's something else, but life has really been unfair to a lot of good women and couples that I am close to lately. I think when we (girls) are younger, we just assume that one day we'll get married and then have kids when we're ready. Unfortunately for some women I'm close to, the finding the right guy was a cinch, but the having children part has been exceedingly difficult.
I suppose what frustrates me is that I see girls in high school (or younger) and women with addictions that seem to be excellent baby hosts, but these women who would make amazing mothers and couples that have the means to provide a great life for any child are either unable to conceive or have trouble carrying to term. It's just not fair.
I am a Christian and I do believe that God has a plan for everything, but this one is just difficult for me. Maybe the experience of a miscarriage provides an opportunity to witness, perhaps there's a child in a foster home that God has specifically picked to be adopted, or possibly the mother's health might be compromised by a pregnancy but she doesn't know it , and of course there are biological reasons for miscarriages... All of these scenarios are equally possible, but until God's plan is revealed, I'm not sure the hurt for these women is any easier to handle. I suppose that's why it's called faith.
I'm sorry if this is a "Debbie Downer" moment, but this is just how I'm feeling today. However, I found out yesterday that one of my friends (after two, early term, miscarriages) is carrying a beautiful baby girl and is almost half-way through her pregnancy..and I couldn't be happier for her and her husband.
On a funny note, not having ever thought getting pregnant might be difficult or take a while, my husband had decided that we should start trying now. I reminded him of Murphy's Law and that if we did, we would very likely be successful immediately and be "blessed" with triplet girls (probably his worst fear). He thought about it for a while and agreed that it was probably better to wait ; )
